Flugt, Refugee Museum of Denmark Oksbøl, Denmark (2022)
Between 1945 and 1949, Denmark’s sixth largest city was located in the dunes on the Danish west coast. After that birds and trees took over, and only a few buildings reminded of the huge refugee camp for German refugees that once was there.
Until now. Because 'Flugt' chronicles their struggle, including an immersive, location-bound audio experience in the forest. In the museum itself - located in the former hospital, renovated by BIG architects - this specific history is linked to the universal story of people on the run and to the current worldwide refugee situation. Flugt tells their story and delivers a meaningful experience about leaving home and searching for a new one.
